Current Major Closures, Construction & Hazards (Summer 2026)
1. ROSS COUNTY (Chillicothe Area — Major Traffic Impacts) High Impact
- SR 159 (Bridge Street Safety Project): All southbound lanes remain closed from Stewart Rd. to North Plaza Blvd., along with the SR 104/High St. on-ramp to eastbound U.S. 35. Expect major traffic backups near the Chillicothe Mall. Detour: Southbound traffic is diverted via U.S. 23/35 or SR 207 to SR 104. Expected Completion: Summer 2027.
- SR 180 Bridge Replacement: Full closure between Sulphur Spring Rd. and Robinson Rd. Detour: SR 180 → SR 159 → SR 56 → SR 180. Expected Completion: Summer 2026.
- SR 138 Bridge Replacement: Fully closed between Water St. and Stingy Lane, plus daytime single-lane restrictions between SR 28 and Austin Rd. Expected Completion: Fall 2026.
- CR 222 (Charleston Pike): Closed between Blacksmith Hill Rd. and Concord Church Rd. Expected Completion: Fall 2026.
2. PIKE COUNTY Full Closure
- SR 32 / SR 124 Intersection Safety Improvements: The intersection of SR 32 and SR 124 is completely closed for safety re-engineering. Detour: SR 772 → SR 220 → SR 552 → SR 104 → SR 32. Expected Completion: Fall 2026.
- SR 124 Culvert Replacement: Down to one lane between SR 772 and Jasper Rd. Traffic is regulated by temporary signals—watch for sudden stops!
3. HOCKING COUNTY Detour Active
- SR 664 & Sauerkraut Road Roundabout: Sauerkraut Rd. is closed for roundabout construction. Mainline SR 664 traffic is maintained via temporary signals. Detour: Old McArthur Rd. to SR 664. Expected Completion: October 2026.
4. SCIOTO COUNTY Signal Controlled
- SR 125 Bridge Replacement: Single-lane restriction between Mackletree Rd. and Ivary Rd. with signal control through Fall 2026.
5. PICKAWAY COUNTY Lane Restrictions
- SR 159 & SR 188 Resurfacing: Daily lane closures (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM) between the Ross County line and Fairfield County line through August 2026 (SR 159) and Fall 2026 (SR 188).

- Speeding is the Primary Threat: OSHP troopers issued over 44,000 citations in work zones during that period—and 76% of those citations were for excessive speeding (including nearly 100 drivers caught driving over 100 MPH through work zones).
- Local Terrain Risks: In Southern Ohio, steep grades and winding roads (such as SR 772 in Ross County) combined with summer downpours create heightened risks for flash flooding, mudslides, and loose debris collecting near culvert replacement sites.

- Never Rush Temporary Signals: On single-lane bridges (like SR 125 or SR 124), temporary traffic lights control both directions. Don’t try to squeeze through on a yellow or red light—heavy machinery or oncoming traffic may be right around the bend.
- Beware of Pavement Drop-Offs & Loose Stone: Resurfacing projects on SR 159 and SR 188 involve pavement milling that leaves uneven lanes and loose gravel, which are especially hazardous for motorcycle riders.
